Time Travel through the World of Pop and Rock Music

“Pop Rock Timetrap” is an engaging educational concert that not only entertains, but also delivers valuable knowledge to young participants about the world of pop and rock music from the 1950s and 1960s. Drawing inspiration from the work and biographies of the era’s most prominent figures, the event offers a musical journey through the defining hits and stories that shaped modern popular culture. By combining live performances with captivating storytelling, “Pop Rock Timetrap” helps participants discover the roots of pop and rock, understand the social and cultural context of the time, and appreciate the creativity and innovation of legendary artists. The concert aims to spark curiosity and inspire a deeper appreciation for music history among the new generation.

During the 50-60 minute shows, the audience embarks on a fascinating journey, listening live to iconic songs from the era while discovering the origins and evolution of musical styles. Through engaging performances, participants experience the energy of the 1950s and 1960s, a period when pop and rock music underwent dramatic transformations—from the birth of rock & roll, influenced by blues, country, and rhythm & blues, to the explosion of legendary artists like Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and The Beatles. The concert not only entertains, but also educates, revealing how these styles shaped popular culture and laid the foundation for modern music.

The project is carried out by a talented band made up of Transylvanian musicians:

  • Pál Gábor (drums, producer)
  • Makkai Kálmán (guitar and vocals)
  • Páldeák Katinka (vocals)
  • Kerezsi Csongor (bass guitar)
  • Sárosi Péter (keyboards)
  • Tóth-Györbiró Apor (sound technician)

The repertoire includes songs by legendary artists such as Muddy Waters, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Wanda Jackson, Paul Anka, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. The band performs both international hits and songs by Hungarian artists, thus enriching the musical palette.

The live musical experience is complemented by multimedia projections that present biographical information and historical context, recreating the atmosphere of the era.

The aim of “Time Travel through Pop Rock” is to bring musical culture closer to rural communities, to inspire young people to take an interest in arts education, and to keep alive the musical heritage of the 1950s and 1960s.

This creative form of music education allows teenagers to expand their knowledge in a fun and interactive way, while also discovering the roots of contemporary musical genres. The project not only entertains, but also highlights the important role that these lesser-known yet defining musical styles have played in shaping modern music.

In 2024, the project reached eight communities with limited access to culture in Covasna County, supporting eight concerts for children from these areas (Aita Mare, Vârghiș, Bățanii Mari, Ilieni, Reci, Ozun, Zăbala, Turia) through funding obtained from the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).
